Carmel in Oz in NZ

Quick post as I'm on the road -- travelling round New Zealand with my Dad. We've been here for four days now, each day we're driving across the country, staying in a different hostel, exploring and generally following our noses.

Tramping in Kaikoura

We've done plenty of tramping (the Kiwi word for hiking) and we've seen seals basking on the rocks, heard some crazy bird calls, sampled lots of local beer, watched a rugby match (mandatory) and stumbled upon an open mic night in a small town! We almost got stuck on a mountain in a hail storm but escaped just in time. One of the most awesome sights was in Kaikoura where the snow-covered mountains ran down into the sea. The terrain is awesome, and there are millions and millions and millions of sheep everywhere -- it's true! Haven't stumbled upon any Hobbits yet but will let you know if we do...

NZ Valley

I'll blog more about it when I'm back home in Sydney, but here are some pics for now. Today we're off to Lake Takepo and we're going to climb a mountain called Mount John, in Dad's honour.
