It began as an attempt to tame my large and very overgrown back garden -- no small task. I've purchased the necessary implements and am now regularly mowing the lawn etc. I even bought a saw and got ruthless with the trees.
Then I decided that if I was going to spend so much time in the garden I may as well reap some rewards from it, in the form of eating vegetables grown by myself. I was inspired by a book that Dad and Debs bought me for my b-day, called 'Animal, Vegetable, Miracle', where Barbara Kingsolver tells of her year where she ate only seasonal items that she'd either grown herself or sourced locally. Growing green things is not something I've had a good track record with, so I decided it was about time I taught myself.
Of course I've approached it all in a typical Carmel fashion, buying books and magazines on the topic, and planning the garden by drawing a map of the space and assessing the hours of daylight each section gets and the quality of the soil. Dad helped me build a compost heap when he was here which is now yielding the good stuff, and I'm well on my way!

Will keep you updated as to my progress.
And in other news, I now have a new edition to my family. She's called Mia and is a 6-year-old rescue cat -- very placid and low maintenance, and so far a little cautious as she gets used to her new home.
